Reminder: Gathering on May 13, 2008 @ 7:30 p.m.

Service opportunities:
For those who want to help with the upcoming walk, there are two main ways to do so. First, attend the
gathering on May 13th and sign up on one of three posters available — prayer vigil, kitchen or logistics.
Secondly, go to the Central Ohio website, www.centralohioemmaus.org, click on “Volunteer Online!”
beneath the walk dates. This will bring up a page titled “Service Opportunities”. Click on the desired
service opportunity — logistics, social, kitchen or childcare and a form will appear for you to submit that
will be forwarded to the appropriate Board Chairperson.

Letter from the Lay Director

On behalf of the Central Ohio Emmaus Board, I extend greetings to all who are reading this newsletter. Grace to you and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • In February, thirty-three women attended as pilgrims on Walk #93. We wish to welcome them
    into the Community and pray that they will continue in their Fourth Days with the same
    enthusiasm and spirit as they exited the weekend.
  • On May 15th, Central Ohio Emmaus Walk #94 begins with Sally Sieg as the Lay Director.
    Team formation has been underway for several weeks and we ask your prayers for the team as
    they complete the team formation phase. Also keep the pilgrims in your prayers. As this is written
    there are five openings available. If you know someone you can sponsor and is willing to attend
    the Emmaus Walk on short notice, contact the Women’s Registrar.
  • Maria Tong has been chosen by the Board as the Lay Director for Women’s Walk #95 in July.
    The Team Nomination committee has met and provided Maria a list of candidates eligible to
    serve as team members. She has contacted several candidates and has obtained commitments
    for several team positions. Pray for Maria and the team of Walk #95 as well.
  • Charles Hall has accepted the Board’s offer to be Lay Director on the September Men’s Walk
    #57.     The Team Nomination committee met on April 24th to select the team candidates for that
    weekend. Again, we ask that Charles and the team be lifted in prayer during these coming
    months.
  • Candidates for Lay Director of Women’s Walk # 96 will be selected the next board meeting
    on May 12th. We hope to see you at the gathering that evening at 7:30 p.m.
  • Sponsorship training will start on May 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the Upper Room conference area.
    The Board is encouraging all who are anticipating being sponsors or are presently sponsors to
    attend this training.
  • It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that the fellowship meals after the closing
    ceremonies on Sunday afternoon have been cancelled.     It was not an easy decision but the
    Board voted to discontinue that function at the March Board meeting. The decision was made
    because the youth outreach program at the Marysville FUMC has over one hundred youth
    actively involved nearly every Sunday evening and the Burnside Life Center is a vital location for
    that program. We attempted to have several closing meals in the Upper Room conference area,
    but space is limited and its remoteness from the kitchen is an extra burden on those whose
    provide the logistics for the event. Although I regret the end of this long standing tradition of this
    Emmaus Community, I rejoice that God’s Word and His purpose is being presented to so many
    youth.

Note: There is childcare available during the gathering, the candlelight service and the closing. A small donation
of $1/child is requested.
