5-Day Academy to be held at the Spiritual
Center
at Maria Stein in west central Ohio, July 28 – August 3
THE ACADEMY FOR SPIRITUAL FORMATION OFFERS:
- A setting in which rich spiritual experience is
fostered through prayer, study, worship and fellowship.
- A setting where clergy and laypersons can “de-stress”
and live in a safe community so deep learning and sharing are possible.
- A chance to experience the stabilizing rhythm of
morning, evening and night prayers and daily Eucharist.
- A place where listening, contemplation, dis-cussion,
and rest foster openness to God.
- An opportunity to celebrate holistic spiritu-ality –
renewing body, mind, and spirit.
- A time to learn new ways to carry God’s love into the
world.
- A community open to all persons who seek God,
regardless of denominational affiliation or not.

Kairos
Outside is a Christian ministry that strives to bring healing,
reconciliation and forgiveness to women who are affected by the
incarceration of their loved ones. It is a week end much like Emmaus, with
worship, singing, talks, discussions, and laughter all surrounded by God’s
powerful love. Incarcerated men who have gone through the Emmaus experience
are allowed to invite a loved one, a gift of a special week end. The men
have supported us by creating welcome banners and dining hall decorations
and encouraging their loved ones to attend. Although all the guests are
happy to come, and to see their loved ones, most are understandably uneasy
about what will take place.
Kairos Outside-Inside (because this is one of only two such events that
actually take place in a prison) will be held at Marion Correctional
Institution this weekend (May 16-18, 2008). We will stay at a nearby motel,
but we will be taken by bus to the prison Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All
our meetings are inside the prison. We need your prayers during the week
end. Please pray that the guests will find God’s peace and love surrounding
them. Also pray that those of us on the team will be able to convey God’s
love in everything we say and do for the entire week end. I especially feel
the need your prayers as we begin programming on Saturday morning.

Faith-Based
Prison Ministries Make a Difference
On February 9, 2007, the Ohio Department of Rehabilitations and Corrections
together with the Ohio Institute on Correctional Best Practices in London
Ohio and the Criminal Justice Research Center at Ohio State University held
a one day symposium on “Faith-Based Programming, Reentry and Recidivism”.
The question being answered was, “Do volunteer faith-based initiatives make
a difference in the rehabilitation and reduction of repeat offenses in the
state prison system?” Read More...

 Volunteers
Needed for the next Walk!
If you can carry bags, set up
tables, wash dishes, or cheerfully greet pilgrims, we have a place for you
to serve! Help is needed in all areas for the next walk. And now you can sign up
online! Prayerfully consider volunteering for logistics,
social, kitchen,
or childcare.

Saltine
Candy Recipe -
If you enjoyed the saltine candy on Women's Walk #90, we now have the recipe
here for you! Get it off the Kitchen Page,

one Word document.

 Would
you like to serve on a Team for a Walk? - A great way to serve your
community is to serve on the Team for a Men's or Women's Walk. How
does that happen? Well, first you need to make sure you have filled
out a Willing Servant Survey.
This let's us know where you are willing to serve or have served in the
community. Then, sign up for the many
other opportunities that are available to support a Walk. In each
of these ways you can let the community know of your interest to serve.
Finally, join a share group if you are not in one already. All team
members must be active in a share group. If you are looking for
a share group, contact the
Men's Good Shepherd,
or the Women's
Good Shepherd.

Are
you in a share group? - We would like to know if you
have
a share group. New members of the community are always looking for a
group in their area. You can help by emailing our
Men's Good Shepherd
or Women's Good
Shepherd and letting them know where and when you meet. Thanks for
helping our community grow?

 Get
notified about the Rooster by Email - Over 500 people have now signed up
to be notified about the Rooster by email! This translates to more funds
that can be used for other ministries! So get the Rooster by convenient
email and help the community at the same time. Use the form on the
Rooster page to get started today.

 COE
Recipes Online - Even more of your favorite recipes from the COE kitchen are
available on the web! Everything from main dishes to dessert.
