Guidelines
Thank you for volunteering to bake Kairos
Cookies! Following these guidelines will help ensure that your cookies
will be most effectively used to do the work for which God inspired you to bake.
- Take me
out! Take this guideline sheet out of the bag before you put the
cookies in, and don't put anything but cookies in the bag.
Paper plates, cardboard backing, plastic wrap - anything but cookies will
have to be removed by us before the cookies go into the prison.
- Make your
cookies sturdy. They'll need to be handled several times before they
arrive in the prisoners' hands. Delicate, pretty cookies will
crumble to dust; chewy cookies and brownies tend to end up as a single
large featureless lump.
- Chocolate chip,
snickerdoodles, peanut butter, oatmeal, and rice crispy treats are all
good.
- Try to get them
between 2 and 3 inches in diameter, so that two dozen is two dozen across
the board and we can be fair.
- Try to count
your cookies carefully so that we don't have to re-bag them. Any bag
with other than two dozen cookies needs to be marked.
- No powdered
sugar, frosting, or raisin cookies. Chocolate chips, M&M's, and
Reese's pieces are fine.
- Don't put notes
in the bag or stick them on the bag; we'll have to take them out or off,
and the prisoners will never see them.
- If you run short
of bags, feel free to buy more, but make sure they are the zip-loc type
bags.
- Don't use burned
or blemished cookies. Remember the cookies are intended to represent
God's perfect love to the prisoners.
- Cookie mixes and
pre-mixed dough from the store are easy if you don't have a good recipe.
- Pray. As
you bake the cookies, pray for the inmates who will eat them. Your
prayers are very important to the prisoners.
- Thank you very
kindly. May God richly bless you.
