Unspent Treasures I read this
story a number of years ago and have shared it several times. I still
think it is worth sharing again. A prospecting party in
the Alaskan Klondike came upon a miners’ hut. Inside they found the
skeletons of two men and a very large quantity of gold. The men had left
a letter telling of their plight. They had discovered gold, but in their
excitement they ignored the signs of the early coming of winter. One
morning they awoke to a great snowstorm. It raged for days until it cut
off any hope of escape. The little store of food in their cabin was soon
exhausted and they died of starvation. They never got to spend and enjoy
their gold. As Christians we have a vast treasure.
Through Jesus, God has given us forgiveness and new life. He has
empowered us by His Holy Spirit and guarantees our inheritance as his
sons and daughters. How often, however, do we fail to recognize the
gifts that God has given us and given in to despair? Like those miners
we fail to recognize our God given treasure. We need to recognize our
gifts and rely on them in our daily life. If you find
yourself distracted by the pressures of daily life so that you are not
living each day enjoying the riches Christ has won for you, take a new
look, reorganize your priorities. Cash in on new hope and God’s high
purpose for your life. You will find that you too are truly rich.
DeColores,
Rick Bales

Childcare
The Emmaus community provides
childcare for
Gatherings, Candlelight, and Closings. The cost
is $1.00 per child, which is not a donation or a
tip
to the sitter. The $1.00 helps offset the
expense
of the babysitter paid by the community. Please
continue to help with expenses by remembering
to pay for the services offered. |

Board Positions
If you are interested in
serving on the Emmaus Board
starting in 2011, we are filling several
positions. The
term length is three years. The names of all
those
interested will be collected and the
community will
vote, most likely this will be at the
October Gathering.
Please let one of the board members know if
you are
interested or email Beth Marshall at:

Thought for the
Day
I used to ask God
to help me.
Then I asked if I might help him.
I ended up by asking him to do his
work
through me.

Count your blessings
instead of your crosses;
Count your blessings instead of your losses;
Count your joys instead of your woes;
Count your friends instead of your foes;
Count your smiles instead of your tears;
Count your courage instead of your fears;
Count your full years instead of your lean;
Count your kind deeds instead of your lean;
Count your health instead of your wealth;
And always count on God instead of yourself.

Consider it pure
joy, my brothers,
whenever you face trials of many kinds,
because you know that the testing of
your faith develops perseverance.
Perseverance must finish its work so
that you may be mature and complete,
not lacking anything.
James 1:2-4 (NIV) |
